DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, July 9\, at 9:00 PM\, the music programme of City Teatar will continue at the Between the Churchesstage with the premiere performance of Europe Symphony\, a work by acclaimed artists Darko Nikčević and Srđan Bulatović\, who will perform with the Boka Symphony Orchestra under the baton of distinguished composer and conductor Mladen Tarbuk. \nThe guitar duo Srđan Bulatović (Doctor of Classical Guitar) and Darko Nikčević (flamenco guitarist and Master of Audio Technology) have earned international recognition for their exceptional virtuosity and dynamic performances\, including two highly acclaimed concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2016 and 2017. Their distinctive musical expression combines irregular Balkan additive rhythms with the beauty of the Mediterranean and the mysticism of the Orient\, firmly rooted in Montenegro’s traditional musical heritage. They have been performing worldwide for 35 years\, and their compositions are distinguished by a remarkable diversity of style\, technique\, and expression. They have released albums on the international labels Naxos Records and Navona Records\, while their music has been broadcast by prestigious radio stations including BBC Radio 3\, as well as numerous broadcasters across Europe and the United States. \nThe Boka Symphony Orchestra is an artistic ensemble founded in the Bay of Kotor with the mission of promoting and advancing symphonic music in the region\, while bringing together some of the most promising and distinguished musicians from Montenegro and beyond. The orchestra draws upon the rich cultural heritage of Kotor\, Tivat\, and Herceg Novi — towns of the Bay of Kotor with a long and significant musical tradition. \nThe orchestra brings together instrumentalists from different generations\, ranging from established artists and educators to emerging young talents\, fostering an intergenerational exchange of knowledge and experience while further enriching the cultural life of the Bay of Kotor. In its artistic work\, the orchestra performs under the baton of distinguished composer and conductor Mladen Tarbuk\, ensuring a high artistic standard and interpretative consistency. \nEurope Symphony is a large-scale contemporary symphonic work rooted in the traditional symphonic sound of European classical music\, enriched by expressive melodies and a contemporary musical language. Across five movements\, the composition explores a diverse range of musical landscapes\, combining classical form with a distinctive and highly personal compositional voice. \nThe work is characterised by unusual rhythmic patterns inspired by local traditions and recognisable Balkan elements\, as well as a fresh orchestral palette that brings richness and variety of tone colour. The music develops a clear relationship between structure and expression\, building tension and dynamics through carefully shaped thematic sections. Europe Symphony represents a fusion of tradition and contemporary expression\, shaped through a unique artistic voice that reflects the diversity and energy of Europe’s cultural landscape. \nThe official release of the Europe Symphony album is scheduled for February 20\, when it will be released by the American record label Navona Records. \nThe concert will also feature the concertante work Oro\, composed for two guitars and symphony orchestra and inspired by Montenegro’s traditional heritage and the spirit of togetherness. The piece draws on the energy and symbolism of the traditional kolo circle dance as an expression of collective strength\, rhythm\, and connection.

DESCRIPTION:The 25th edition of the KotorArt International Festival will officially open on Monday\, July 13\, Montenegro’s Statehood Day\, at the Square in front of St. Tryphon’s Cathedral\, beginning at 9:30 PM\, with an event symbolically entitled Trajanje (Endurance). \n“In the year in which the Festival marks a quarter of a century of existence\, the opening ceremony presents a programme that brings together cultural heritage\, contemporary creativity\, and the culture of remembrance\, reaffirming the values upon which KotorArt has endured for 25 years. The concert will feature the Boka Symphony Orchestra\, the Ivan Goran Kovačić Academic Choir\, soprano Mihaela Kristina Mlinarić\, tenor Reza Fekri\, and baritone-bass Krešimir Stražanac\, under the baton of distinguished Croatian composer and conductor Mladen Tarbuk\,” the statement reads. \nKotorArt added that this year’s opening ceremony is dedicated to two significant anniversaries. \n“The Festival marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Brkanović\, a native of Kotor and an important Croatian and regional composer\, whose monumental work Triptihon will be performed. At the same time\, KotorArt pays tribute to Don Branko Sbutega\, one of the Festival’s founders\, on the 20th anniversary of his death\, recalling a man whose vision left an indelible mark on Montenegro’s cultural life. A special event of the evening will be the world premiere of the composition Pjesme muzici\, commissioned by KotorArt and composed by Maestro Mladen Tarbuk to verses by Don Branko Sbutega\,” the statement says. \nSpeaking about the creation of the work\, Tarbuk explains: \n“Don Branko’s poems trace the distant horizons of his thoughts\, moving from warm birthday wishes to reflections on the spiritual mystery of the world. A special place is occupied by the poems that emerged from his understanding of music as that which lies beneath what sound conceals. Don Branko began with music in shaping a poetic arc\, and I complete that arc by returning his verses once again to music.” \nThe composer adds that he selected poems of differing character\, ranging from reflective and meditative to strongly rhythmic\, creating a cycle that begins with Etida 3\, continues with a poem inspired by Beethoven\, followed by a poetic reflection on the piano and the act of creation\, while the concluding Toccata\, inspired by Bach’s famous composition\, grows into a celebration of music and life. \nThe KotorArt statement notes that the principal ensemble of this year’s opening ceremony is the Boka Symphony Orchestra\, founded with the mission of bringing together musicians from the Bay of Kotor and contributing to the development of symphonic art in the region. \n“Under the artistic leadership of Mladen Tarbuk\, the orchestra is developing into a distinctive cultural symbol of Kotor\, the Bay of Kotor\, and Montenegro. An additional dimension to the concert will be provided by the participation of the Ivan Goran Kovačić Academic Choir\, one of Croatia’s most distinguished and highly awarded choirs\, which for almost eight decades has been synonymous with artistic excellence.
