Boka Symphony Orchestra to Perform at Trg od Oružja Kotor on 21 May

Montenegro is marking twenty years since the restoration of its independence, and on this occasion Kotor will transform into a grand open-air concert stage beneath the stars.

“At Trg od Oružja, in the heart of the Old Town, on Thursday, 21 May, starting at 20:00, the Boka Symphony Orchestra will present a ceremonial concert bringing audiences together for a unique musical experience worthy of this important jubilee. Under the baton of maestro Mladen Tarbuk, with a performance by soprano Milica Zdravković, the audience can expect an evening filled with powerful emotions and exceptional music,” the orchestra’s PR team announced.

The programme, they added, features magnificent overtures by some of the greatest names in the world of opera — Giuseppe Verdi, Dionisio de Sarno, and Ludwig van Beethoven — alongside selected works by Montenegrin composers Borislav Tamindžić, Žarko Mirković, Srđan Bulatović, Darko Nikčević, and Nikola Radunović, combining tradition with contemporary musical expression.

“Throughout the evening, the audience will be guided by actors Marija Bergam and Slaviša Grubiša, adding an additional artistic dimension to the programme,” the statement continues.

The programme commemorating 21 May, organised by the Municipality of Kotor, the Public Institution Cultural Centre “Nikola Đurković”, the Public Institution “Museums” Kotor, Komunalno d.o.o., and the Kotor Tourist Organisation, also includes the performance of the orchestra as part of the official celebration programme.

“This concert is not only a musical event, but also a symbol of unity, identity, and freedom — values that define modern Montenegro. We invite all citizens and visitors of Kotor to be part of this unique evening and to celebrate this important anniversary together through music that connects people,” the statement concludes.
